NEWSLETTER 8 - MAY/JUNE 2004

GOLDEN MOMENT FOR PGF
HEARTT 2000 AT MATA HARI

The latest PGF Gala Charity Dinner held in aid of HEARTT2000 and local charities was at the Mata Hari Restaurant. With the 45 patrons well-sated from the fine cuisine and excellent wine, the raffle tickets sold quickly and raised over 65,000 baht.

Peewee and his wife Sue had a pleasant surprise when, having been bitterly disappointed that their numbers had not been drawn earlier in the evening they suddenly found they had become the owners of the 1 baht Gold chain star prize. Not for long though, as Peewee generously re-donated it to be auctioned to raise extra money for Dr. Philippe’s work to provide the life-saving drugs for the HIV/AIDS patients. After some brisk bidding Mr. Louis Noll, the owner of Mata Hari, was able to hand over the gold chain to his wife after first handing over 9,000 baht to add to the Charity funds. After a very pleasant evening some 92,500 baht had been raised and the PGF Charity Committee wish to thank all those who attended, those who donated prizes and especially Louis and his staff for the excellent meal and service.

LATEST REPORTS

JOMTIEN JOLLIES KEEP HEARTT 2000 AND PGF ON THE RIGHT LINES OVER SONGKRAN

Sunday 18th April brought the Jomtien PGF supporting businesses together in Jomtien Complex to present their Songkran offering to raise money for HEARTT 2000’s on-going work to help provide life-saving medicinal care for HIV/AIDS patients.

So far in the first quarter of this year Pattaya Gay Festival has raised the equivalent of 200,000 a month to help Dr. Philippe in this essential work. The Jomtien Sponsors event helped raise another 50,000 Baht.

Some 300 people were present to enjoy the delights of the Star Treff Cabaret and Exxit performers.

The brave contestants in the Swimwear competition had no doubt expected some water activity but with all the electricity and sound systems’ wiring around it was a very “dry” event.
See the pictures go here.

As a first-time ‘happening’ the organizers must surely have taken encouragement from the attendance and popularity of the event and venue. With this and the August Miss PGF Street Party and the Beach Party in the final events calendar on November 29th, the PGF committee are grateful to the Jomtien community for playing such an important part in the year-long charitable activities to raise money for HEARTT 2000.

ROYAL VARIETY PERFORMANCE AT THROB/SPLASH
Mark and Kevin certainly woke the street up on their double birthday bash with outriders and crowns adding to the scene as they arrived for the start of the Royal Variety Performance on the 22nd. After a free buffet and with plenty of fun items inside, Mark persuaded the customers to part with 25,000 baht for the in-house lottery. This was donated to the PGF HEARTT 2000 charity funds.
See the pictures go here.

The PGF Committee would like to thank again the sponsors for all the work put in at both these events.

FEBRUARY A BUSY MONTH
After the success of Boyz, Boyz, Boyz Valentine evening it was the turn of Throb/Splash to present a heartthrob of a different kind. Mr. Muscle and Mr. Popular attracted 16 contestants of various shapes and sizes who put themselves in the limelight. It was a close competitive event eventually between ART, number 11, and CHAI, number 12 for the honour of being Mr. Popular. ART was declared the winner after his supporters had bought some 200 bananas between them! The eventual winners of the Mr. Muscle title were: 2nd runner-up PHON from Derby Men’s Club, massage and gym, 1st runner-up, KAW, from the Body Club, and Mr. Muscle was HELL from Khanpanna Bar in Soi 2. Throb-Splash showboys put on a selection of new numbers to keep everyone entertained and the final result brought some 75,000 baht into the PGF funds in support of HEARTT2000. Thanks to Kevin and Mark and everyone at Throb/Splash and all who supported the event especially the contestants without whom we would not have had a delightful evening’s entertainment!
See the pictures go here.

FESTIVAL OPENING NIGHT
The Committee promised you a different opening event on 29th February and thanks to all the organizers in the street it gelled into a wonderful evening. From the moment the rodeo bull appeared and set the theme and attracted attention during the early part of the evening it was all go till midnight. With some spectacular new shows from Pattaya Stunt Group, the Throb/Splash Showboys, Boyz, Boyz, Boyz, My Life Bar, and Topman, the night had everything, Glitz, Glamour, Humour, Cowboys and Indians and a Show-down at the OK Corale
See the pictures go here.

At the end of the event the supporters continued to spend a little more time and money back in the saloons who were generously giving 20% of their takings during the evening to the charity funds.

Thanks to everyone’s efforts and digging deep in the pockets of the supporters the Opening Event, which over 400 people attended raised 210,000 baht for the PGF funds to help fight HIV/AIDS through the work of HEARTT.2000. Yee Ha!
